Do you think landfills should sort trash? (Description)

Do you think landfills should be required to start sorting trash and recycle items that can be recycled? Personally, I think it would be a good idea. Not only would it cut back on our landfills and pollution, but it would provide more jobs. Thoughts?

Where I live every household have to sort trash; paper and cardboard, glass and metal, plastic, food, and the rest. Absolutely doable for everyone, and it's impressive how little that actually goes in the "rest waste" bin.
 There is also a return policy on all plastic bottles and cans, where you get money back. 
Point is, everyone should sort their trash, and what little that's left should be sorted again when it comes to the landfill.

It should be mandatory to sort your own rubbish and recycle necessary items. Yes, things may get missed but you can’t say it will improve the situation.

That's ridiculous. Individuals are responsible for that. Going through everyone's trash and doing it would take an insane amount of people or trash would pile up REAL fast.

I think it’s a decent idea with good intention but lots of things can’t even be recycled once they’ve been tainted with a lot of the things that you’d find in landfills. It would probably take a lot of time and yield poor results. This same energy should be used towards cleaning our oceans though. I think it would be great if we could get more jobs out there of people getting trash out of the ocean and back where it belongs.

yes but at the same time everybody needs to be responsible for their own trash. people assume someone else will take care of it when they can just recycle and not be wasteful on their own.

People who are throwing their shit out should be the ones separating the trash from the recycling so our landfill operators and garbage picker-upers can continue about doing their jobs, seriously.. wtf wants to go through everyone's nasty as garbage.. because Susan on front Street doesn't know how the fuck to recycle...

This really isn’t their job. It’s up to consumers to dispose of their trash or recyclables in the proper way. There’s literally sooo much trash that comes through on a daily basis that it would be entirely impossible to just sort through it like it’s an easy task when literal tons of trash come in. So unless an engineer invented some sort of machine that filters out recyclable items from the trash brought in, I think it’s our problem.
