Travel systems?! Is it better to have a separate car seat and pram, or an all in one travel system so the car seat clicks into the pram frame?

We walk everywhere when we can, so for us it was important to have a bassinet for the pram/stroller. It's no good for baby to sit in a car seat for too long. 
And I wanted a specific carseat due to great safety ratings. So we bought it separately.

We went with uppababy which has an infant seat and bassinet that both click onto the stroller. It's super easy and has everything I wanted. The bassinet is particularly nice for walks because I don't have to move the baby if he's asleep, I just unclick from the stroller and click onto the bassinet stand. Infant seat is great for quick errands. If you have certain preferences though, you may be more successful getting everything you want by mix and matching different items. Whatever you do, please try it out in person first. I was set on a few options, both of which were immediately abandoned when I tried them in person due to irreconcilable differences 🤷🏼‍♀️

I registered for 2 different strollers, infant seat and convertible seat. Still using infant seat. We just got the adapters for the strollers to use the infant seat with it. It's easier and cheaper to get the travel system. I was specific about what items I wanted and reasons why so I went with different brands for certain items but it's so easy to just get adapters.

Buying a convertible infant to toddler car seat will save you money in the long run, but I personally prefer the travel system. When my son falls asleep in the car (which he often does) I don’t need to interrupt his nap.

So with my daughter I had the travel system and loved it. My son didn't come along for six mire years so the car seat was no longer good, but I still had the stroller. I decided to save money and reuse stroller and buy a new carseat. Big mistake! The stroller was basically useless until he was like 6 months old.

For smaller babies the car seat and pram are nice because they are built for them but the all in one is nice for if the mom is the one always carrying baby and can't lift baby and car seat.

I loved my travel system. It was so nice when we had dr visits, that way in the waiting area I felt like my baby was secure (there’s usually other kids running around). Not to mention, it saved my weak noodle arms in several situations. Lugging around a baby in the car seat is heavy.

Most of the time I’m running errands I babywear, I hardly ever use the stroller. But I really appreciate having an infant car seat that clicks into the stroller for quick errands when baby is asleep. I also really like having the infant car seat during the winter or even summer storms, so I can get him loaded up inside the house. That way he stays warm in the car seat and I’m not standing outside trying to get him loaded up. 
I personally went with a stroller and car seat that were compatible but purchased separately not as a travel system. It gave me more options to get the car seat and stroller I wanted.

Ours had a bassinet feature and the car seat could click in. We used both often, especially after I had abdominal surgery when he was 6 months and couldn’t lift much.

Cost wise it’s nice to have the convertible I can’t to toddler seat however with them being so little and most likely to be asleep by the time you reach wherever you are going it’s better to have the infant seat and stroller combo you don’t risk having to wake them up for no reason.
