I think spelling the name with “leigh” in it is too feminine. I’d go with the spelling Layton for a boy.

Leighton is feminine looking. I’ve only ever seen it spelled that when used for girls. It also reminds me of the actress Leighton Meester. 
I’d spell it Layton Or Leyton for a boy. I’ve even seen it spelled Lleyton as a surname.
