How do you want to receive an engagement ring?

Husband and I were debating whether or not a man should ask a woman to help him pick a ring or if he should do it alone. Give reasons if you can!

I would want my boyfriend to pick out the ring himself when he wants to actually marry me because he took the time to pick it out and that’s very special to me. But that’s just me though.

My fiancé picked the ring himself, and I love that he took the time to find one that he thought was perfect.
That being said, I’m into the simple/classic engagement rings, and he already knew that I prefer white gold... so he didn’t have to worry about me not liking it 😊

My dad was diagnosed with cancer and as the only daughter in a family of 10 children, my husband and I decided we would get married. 7 weeks later we had our day and it was the most amazing day, but because there was no official engagement or ring, my husband had a running joke that I wouldn’t get one. 3 days before our first anniversary, I had a really sh*tty day at work, came home crying and my husband pulled out a little box with the most beautiful engagement ring. I cried more. It was the thought he’d put in to choosing something for me to wear that reflected us, suited my personal style and the love we have for each other. I couldn’t have chosen better myself. He even managed to get my ring size out of me and I hadn’t even clocked on so it was the perfect fit! Definitely prefer for the SO to pick the ring, it’s a symbol of the love they have for you. We’ve been married 5 years. ATB to you xx

They should do whatever they want. There is no should/should not do in this instance. They should go with their own preference. 
This is like asking if people SHOULD have blonde hair or brown hair.. they should have whatever color they want. There is no right or wrong "should" here.

This is going to be different for everyone and every relationship. I personally do not want an engagement ring at all. I’ve been with my partner 15 years. And there’s just more important things for us to save money for. And with jewelry I either break it or lose it.

So we went to the jewelry store and I showed him ideas on what I would like kind of like 3 choices and BOOOOM a day later he bought an amazing ring that he knew I had already liked 😩❤️ . I would of been a little upset if he got a ring that I didn’t like :/ lol

I don’t like surprises and I don’t want to wear a ring my whole life I don’t love. With that being said, I also don’t like spending money on jewelry or material items. 
We compromised and he chose 20, I narrowed it down to 3, and he chose from there.

I’d want my SO to pick out the ring. It’s more special that way. I think people who pick out their own rings kinda take the whole point of getting engaged away. Don’t you want to feel completely surprised? I would. I feel like if you pick out your own ring, it’s basically just wondering when you will get said ring and that’s stressful. Then, if something happens and you guys break up, you won’t get the ring that you wanted, leading to even more disappointment. An example of this is my bf’s cousin got his gf pregnant like 6 months into their relationship, and she told him they had to get married now. So, she picked out her ring, and he bought it. He didn’t give it to her right away and complained every day about not getting the ring right away and apparently would sneak it out of the box and wear it places. To me, this is just disrespectful in its entirety. I like the idea of being surprised, though. 🤷‍♀️
