Are you a "granola" mom??

Question

The term "granola" is kind of like the new "hippie". These are moms who buy organic, maybe use essential oils, make their own products.

I am currently transitioning and I would love some recipes to make my own:  
-shampoo 
-conditioner 
-face wash 
-disinfectant 
-cleaner 
-laundry detergent

Etc!!!! Let me know what you use to eliminate toxins in your house 😊

Lol. I tell people I'm kinda crunchy, I'm a new age hippie. I just prefer natural to manmade and healthy to junk.

I have made my own laundry soap before just to see if I could do it. I loved the way it smelled and it seemed to work great! Just be sure you have a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. One recipe will almost full it up!!

What you need:
1 Bar of Fels Naptha Soap 
1 Cup of Washing powder
1 cup of Borax
12 cups cold water divided 
4 cups hot water 
1 -2 gallons of water (I usually use 2 just to further dilute the borax and washing powder since it can be harsh on the clothes after a while)

Grate the bar of soap and put it in a pot with 6 cups cold water. Melt it on the stove over medium heat. Once melted add in washing soda and borax. Mix until dissolved! Remove from heat. Add the 4 cups of hot water to the bucket. Add The soap mixture to the bucket and stir well. Add in the remaining 6 cups cold water and the 1-2 gallons of water. Put a lid on this bucket and let it sit for a full 24 hrs. It should mostly form a gel. Use about a half cup for each load.

I use Fels Naptha because I love the fresh lemony scent that it leaves in clothes. All of these ingredients are available on the washing isle at you local Walmart. Overall, I can say this is a cheap, great cleaner. I am a married, part time college student, full time job holder and it is very economical for us. Keeps us from spending so much on washing detergent. You could also mid the dry ingredients into a canister and add enough water to melt it into each lod before hand if you'd like. I just like the convenience of scoop it and go

You'll also find that most cleaning products use the same few ingredients:
Castile soap (liquid or bar, depends)
Baking soda
Vinegar
Washing soda for detergents
Citric acid
Sea salt

A lot of crunchy moms just don't shampoo their hair and that's a whole other issue. Before I was pregnant I did a few different ones - one recipe had coconut milk but I have greasy hair and it didn't work for me. The ACV rinse is really great though.

You'll find once you make one product - either out of the cleaning side or out of the personal care side - it's really easy to add more things. I buy my stuff off of amazon and very rarely have to restock. And it's amazing just walking past all the stinky chemical filled cleaning aisles at the store every week!

I'd say I'm sorta crunchy. I buy organic when I can, we make our own deodorant, laundry detergent, use cloth diapers, etc. but I still buy shampoo, conditioner, etc from the store.
