Why do MILs and DILs often not like each other?

Why do you think mother in laws and daughter in laws often not like each other? Or even hate each other?

Maybe they feel they are being replaced

MILs misplace their unhappiness with their relationship with their sons onto the DIL

Because they try to compete for the same title. “His go-to woman.” Like the one they run to when they are sick, hungry, or need help with something. Weird way to put it, but that’s just how it is. Some women can’t let go of the idea that their sons don’t need them as much as they used to. And on the flip side, women in the wife situation can’t accept that a man still wants his mother involved in his life. And that he may consult his mom as opposed to his wife in some instances.

I love my mother in law and she loves me. Conflict happens when someone tries to be an alpha. Just get along with the other . It’s not that hard.

Not all MIL/DIL relationships are bad but there is the old adage “A son is a son until he takes a wife. A daughter is a daughter her entire life”

Could be feeling of replacement or jealousy! Usually with a Mommas boy. Vice versa, some women get jealous that their SO is too "attached" to their mother🤷🏻‍♀️ (I find that silly but it be like that)

I think my MIL and I are ok but not super close. But now I have a son. He’s only a year and a half and I can already see how hard it might be for me for him to have a wife one day. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ But same if I ever have a daughter and a guy ever treats her like less than a goddess.

My MIL is a fucking idiot. I tolerate her but she's so dumb & self-centered, & it's super annoying.

My mil and I didn't get along at first because of how she treated my husband. She used him alot because she was really lazy to do things for her when she didn't want to. Shes told me a lot of things no mother should say about her child. She takes credit for how much I've grown my husband. Theres just alot of shit she does that makes me mad. Plus when my husband and I first started dating it was me and him plus her. She almost ruined my relationship several times. It was trying to say the least. But I ended up sitting her down and told her a lot of things on my mind and she told me her and we figured it out. Kinda. Some things weren't so nice but it worked out and we get along better now that she's backed off a bit.
