I think it's weird that people think Mackenzie is a girls name. To me it's neutral but swinging more on the size of a boy name. Maybe I'm biased because my nephews name is Mackenzie and we call him Mack. I don't think Mack is a very feminine name...

Tho MacKenzie is a gender neutral name, it would be the equivalent of naming him Bailey, Kelley, or possibly Ashley. All of which are originally surnames or boys names but have become girls names. No doubt he will get picked on growing up. I would consider McKinnon, Mcelroy or some other variation if you're wanting the nick name Mac.

From what I have seen, these days a lot of females are being named Makenzie. I know it's a gender neutral name so it's really just if you're ok with the fact he may have one or two girls with the same name in his classes over the years.

Mackenzie was traditionally a boy's name. Mackenzie Astin was a child star of the 80s. He was super cute. Mackenzie I think became one of those ironic girls' names, like Charlie or Regan.
