What would you do?

I have a situation. I’m getting married in October and my family and my fiancé’s family are two different people. My family are preachers, his family cusses, drinks, smokes pot, etc. you get the idea. Well, they don’t like each other. Okay, who cares that they don’t like each other they can suck it up for a day. My problem is, we want to have alcohol. My family will talk down on me months after my wedding if I do this around them. So I came to the conclusion I could just get them to leave at 8 and do what I wanna do afterwards. I can’t be myself around my family and I wanna have fun at my own wedding you know? So how do I do this? They’re trying to pay for the receptionist and I just feel bad. Idk. I just need some advice on how to handle this! TIA!

Having your family leave at 8 and his family stay is just a really bad idea! I think you should sit down and explain to them that just because there is alcohol it doesn’t mean everyone will be wasted and it’s totally okay if they don’t drink! Also it’s your wedding and you want it your way and that’s it.

Have the kind of wedding YOU want. Be exactly who you are and they can take it or leave it. You careen even ignore them for a while if need be. This is your day, not theirs.

I think it’s a tough situation but ultimately you should have the wedding you want. 
Maybe sit down with them and explain what sort of wedding reception you want and that involves there being alcohol there, but that doesn’t mean people will necessarily get really drunk. 
If they can’t be accepting of that, then maybe give them the opportunity to leave early if they want, but leave it up to them to decide?

So it’s my post, and there’s just too many comments to reply to at the moment and they basically have the same question in them all. My family does not drink at all, they talk bad about people that do. They’re super religious and the most judgemental people I know. His family does not get carry away but my mom already doesn’t like my fiancé and it’s super tough on us as it is. I cuss, drink and let loose a lot but if I did any of that around my family they more than likely wouldn’t talk to me again. They found out my brother was drinking awhile back at his house and they still haven’t stopped talking about it. He literally does it in a yeti cup so his kids don’t know. He does it at home, not public and they still talk bad about him so I can only imagine if I did it at my wedding. I don’t want them there the whole time. I don’t really care for my family but they’re my family and I can’t just disown them. I’m just so lost as to what I should do.

Do they understand there was a ton of celebration involving wine in the Bible? That people probably weren't sober from it? That God approved? That God approved so much that one of Jesus's miracles was turning water into wine at a wedding?! 
It would be hypocritical for them to be judgemental about having a wet bar at your wedding. You could do a wet bar and a dry bar (iced tea, lemonade, soda, water).

Does your family not drink at all? You could agree to beer and wine and no hard liquor. It’s your wedding though. They can decide if they leave early, I wouldn’t suggest it.

Ehh I don’t know. If your so family ratchet when they drink? If not I don’t see a issue if they are dancing and having a good time drinking but while civilized lol. I ask because I went to one wedding where once they started drinking, girls were dancing so inappropriate, i couldn’t believe they’d do that at a wedding... I believe people can have fun drinking without loosing their mind. And your family is important, I wouldn’t have them leave early, it’s weird.
