When to introduce bottles

Question

For those that are EBF now, but plan to pump before you return to work, when do you plan to introduce bottles to your little one? My lactation consultant said I can introduce them as early as 3 weeks, but I wanted to see what others were planning to do.

Yes, 3 to 4 weeks is ideal, and then try to do a bottle every day if you can. I know it's a pain sometimes when it's so much easier to just give them the boob but they have to keep practicing. I only gave my guy 1 a week and he started to refuse it! So now we are doing 1 a day.

I would say 3 weeks sounds about right but if I were you I'd have dad or who ever eill be watching the baby feed with bottles so the baby knows you're for nursing and others are bottles!  Atleast that's my plans!

Be sure that you don't wait too long. I waited a few weeks and my son wouldn't take any bottle from anyone. Daddy had to feed him using a dropper. Yes, a dropper when I was gone. As soon as I came home, daddy would gladly hand my son over to me, saying "feed him". Lol I tried every "most like breast" bottle out there with no luck. So, start early.

I had to at 4 days old because he wasn't gaining enough weight so we supplemented using a bottle at the recommendation of the lactation consultant.

I EBF until 6 weeks and introduced a bottle at 7 weeks, she's now almost 14 weeks and will take breast or bottle just fine. I've never moved her up from a size 1 nipple though, even though she's collapsed it a few times.

We introduced the bottle at 5 weeks, he took it closer to 6. Daddy gave 1 bottle a day so I could sleep in. Then when I went back to work he had an easy time. Now at 16 wks my son refuses my breast at some feeds because he likes a bottle from dad. Usually his 6-7am one. But is still a terrific night feeder.

I would say 3-4 weeks as well. My son is just about 3 months and it has been a CHALLENGE to get him to take a bottle. We've tried a couple of times since now with no luck so I kinda gave up. I'm not going back to work so didn't think much of it. Tried to go to a wedding without him this weekend and it was a nightmare. Good luck!!!
