My husband wants to get a kitten for our daughter??? Im a dog lover idk what to expect lol.

My 3 year old has been asking for a puppy or a kitten. We have come to the conclusion that a kitten would fit better with our current schedules. I come from a dog family lol. I have never personally owned a cat, so I really don’t know what I’m getting myself into. How are kittens with toddlers? Is there anything I should know before hand?

It should be fine... They're a little rambunctious but a lot easier to raise than a a puppy. If anything you should be a little more concerned about how the toddler will treat the kitten... Kids can love animals pretty hard so don't let her be too rough with it.

I told my daughter she could have one when she can prove she can take care of it herself..... She is 5 now lol. So she "adopted" strays that showed up.

I am also a dog lover..  only ever had dogs.. never thought we would own a cat..  but about 1.5 years ago my husband randomly wanted to adopt this little black and white kitten. He is the most chill and sweetest cat. And low key wayyyyy easier than a dog.  I like that cats will play and engage with you and then they will go to sleep for like 6 hours.  Pretty easy lol

I have 3 cats 2 male 1 female I found that with male kittens they are quite playful but sleep a lot and are more loving example/ letting you cradle them like baby’s and holding them while they sleep, girl cats on the other hand will wreck your house and scratch a lot they don’t like being held or bothered that much we thought getting her tubes tied she’d settle down but I’ve had to re decorate the house 3 times in the past 2 months, she’s a little devil but still one of my babies

Neither...your daughter is too young imo and you’ve never had a cat before and idk if you husband has. Animals are not there for our entertainment and I find a lot of people who aren’t familiar with them and who get them for their young kids don’t understand this. Kittens are especially vulnerable and your daughter can easily hurt one on accident. Like humans all have different personalities and you could easily come across one that prefers to spend 90% of her time alone, hiding and sleeping. They can also make a mess and destroy your couch, carpets, they throw up (just the other day we had our dog and cat all throw up in the same night so there went our sleep), some mainly if not spayed or neutered yet like to spray their urine on your stuff (my parents cat would do this), sometimes they like to meow really loudly and run all over the house for hours in the middle of the night. In general cats like their independence, if you’re looking for something that is going to cuddle and play with your kid whenever your kid wants to that isn’t going to happen.

I’ve had cats & dogs living with my parents my whole life. Last year I adopted a girl kitten as I just hated living without a pet to love.
She is crazy but is settling down now (close to 1.5 yrs). She is an indoor cat unless I put her leash on but she would prefer to be outside all the time, so I am installing a cat run for her quality of life. I don’t let her wander as there are nasty people, bigger cats, dogs and cars and it helps the native animals plus I’m way over protective lol 😆.
In regard to your toddler teach them to only play with the cat using its toys preferably a wand or a piece of string that the kitten can chase after & less chance of injury to the kitten and toddler. Scratches and bites can hurt and will happen but you can minimise it. Teach you toddler to pet the cat when they are purring, when their tail isn’t flicking angrily or ears are pointing backwards/flat on their head as those are the cats warning signs that it isn’t happy and may lash out. 
Make sure you have a place for your kitten where they will feel safe and can run and hide to. I permanently leave the carry case out with blankets. She knows when she is in there she will be left alone and is safe. It also makes car trips easier but I taught her to love travel lol, still hates the vets though! 
Cats are independent and like to be alone but do enjoy being playful and hunting I have no flies or crickets in the house as she kills them. Just respect them and take the time to learn their cues and you should be fine. 😀😺 don’t forget a scratching post!

Just a suggestion here if I may: get an indoor cat. I have a ragdoll cat, my daughter absolutely loves him. He is just adorable. Docile, not aggressive, very loyal and acts like a dog! And very much ragdoll like, hence the breed name. Very floppy!! And they NEVER SCRATCH YOU. So it’s very safe! Fully vaccinated and healthy, with no problems. You don’t want to get a cat who will be in and out hunting for a mouse or what not, god knows what they might bring.

Having a cat is really easy.  It should get the litter box right away and if not you can use “cat attract” litter and it should get used to it right away.  Kittens can be a little wild but nothing like a puppy.

I have a cat and a dog and cats are so much easier. Literally my cat eats, naps on and off all day, and then sometimes wants attention so he will come and lay on my lap. You don’t have to potty train because they use a litter box, nothing. My cat hates kids though where as my dog loves them 😂 when my friend brought her 3 year old to the house the other day her daughter tried playing with the cat and he ran and hid until they left 🤷🏻‍♀️
