Are toddlers free to fly?

We are planning a trip to go to Myrtle beach and I heard that babies are free if they sit on your lap, but what is the age limit? I’ve never flown with a kid before.

I fly Southwest and they’re free under 2 if they’re on your lap. I wished I had a car seat for my 16 month old on the return flight, he was a f’n demon.

Here in SA toddlers under 2 pay a percentage of what your flight costs. I think it’s like 15% but over 2 they pay the full adult price as they occupy a seat
