How do you know??

Question

How do you know you’re definitely ready for a baby?? What are some signs or something? We are trying, but I go back and forth with if I’m ready or not. My husband is worried we aren’t set financially, but I told him if we wait to be financially ready, then we will never be ready. I know lots of people far worse off than us that are doing just fine with having kids. 
We own our home, both have jobs, his is steady, mine will hopefully be steady starting in July as I get hired on at 3/4 or full time. We have 2 cars, insurance on both of us and our cars and our house. We have it pretty good. I think we are ready. We will probably struggle sometimes, but everyone does. I truly think we are ready and can do it. I want to be a mom, and I want my husband to be a dad. He will be the best dad.

I've been ready to be a mom for the past 4 years, but it wasn't until about two years ago that my husband was ready to seriously talk about parenthood. He felt like I was pushing him too hard, and got defensive every time I brought the subject up. On the other hand, I felt like he wasn't taking my considerations seriously. We agreed to table the discussion of planning for kids until we had met very concrete personal and career goals: a certain amount of debt paid off, career milestones met, and doing some traveling to places that would be tough to visit with small kids. During the hiatus we continued to talk about parenting goals and ideals, but not the big question of WHEN.
Once we reached the agreed-upon milestones, we revisited the conversation of starting TTC, and were both enthusiastic (albeit nervous to actually be completely off any and all pregnancy prevention methods for the first time ever).
It ended up taking us a year and a half to conceive, with the assistance of fertility treatments. Sometimes I questioned if we did the right thing by waiting, and if we would have had better success if we started trying sooner. For the record, were both 29, so not that old. But the reality is that if we weren't both on board with being ready for a baby, we wouldn't be as excited and united about the upcoming birth of our first child as we are now.

With our first, we were in a good place in life and knew we were ready to expand our family and beyond excited to do so.
Now she's 3, we are ttc #2. Again, we just knew it was right. It felt right, no hesitations.
