IUD !!???? Help ASAP

Question

I have a postpartum appointment today. I know the topic of birth control will come up . I’ve had acouple people suggest Non hormonal IUD. I’m 27 and have never had any birth control besides condoms. 
With that said I’m afraid to jump into other options mostly because side effects,but I do need to explore other options because I am not looking to have more children as of now and condoms just aren’t reliable for us as we’ve conceived with them with two of our children. Anyhow I’m looking for some advice,wisdom knowledge experience on the IUD s . I’m having some major anxiety about getting one even though I’d love the benefits. I’m extremely sensitive after child birth in my lady regions and emotionally I feel like I’ll be very dramatic during insertion.Thoughts???

I will second the previous poster and give a 👍 to hormonal birth control.  I'm 33 and I've been on the pill since I was 17; only coming off when I was trying to conceive.  In all those years I never even had a scare and the only side effect I seem to have is a decrease in sex drive (which isn't really a decrease, I just don't experience an increase during ovulation because I'm not ovulating).  I intend on staying on the pill until we're sure we're done having kids and my husband gets a vasectomy.  IUDs scare the hell out of me!

I had the Paragard copper IUD from September 2016 to January 2019. Got it inserted at my 6 week postpartum appointment. I chose it because I was breastfeeding my daughter and certain hormonal birth controls can effect your supply. I think the only other option I had was the mini pill, but I’ve never been good at remembering to take pills especially at the same time each day. Plus the fact that the IUD was good for 10yrs sounded great. I did bleed for a few days after insertion, kinda like having a period. It does make periods longer and heavier though, which I didn’t enjoy. Normally I have a fairly light 4-5 day period and my cycles are around 33 day. With the IUD I was having heavy 5-7 day periods and my cycles were much more irregular from anywhere between 35-45 days long. I would even occasionally skip a period all together. Overall I wasn’t unhappy with my choice and I don’t think I had any other side effects. I’ve thought about getting it again after this baby but also trying to convince my partner to get fixed if we are really done having kids. For me, getting fixed is not an option because I still think about being a surrogate one day and want to keep that option available.

I had the Myrena for 5 years after my son was born. The insertion didn't hurt at all and I had my period every month for a couple of days. The only negative thing for me was a horrible acne the entire time on my back. It got resolved as soon as the Dr took it out. I tried the pills after my daughter was born and my mood was all over the place and I keep forgetting to take them every day lol. So definitely not for me lol. You can always check other options like the shot or nuva ring. Good luck

It’s not bad at all- the insertion. It’s a little uncomfortable for a couple days with some cramping but no more than what it’s like with a period. Totally recommend it if you want to go that route. Hubby and I are only using condoms after this baby but reading you got pregnant twice using them?!? That’s scary!

If you haven't tried hormonal birth control before, I'd encourage you to give it a try. It doesn't work well for everyone, but for some of us, the side effects are actually positive: weight loss, fewer mood swings, less painful and heavy periods, etc.
Like I said it's not that way for everyone, but it's also not always as awful as some people say, either.
