C section recovery

How long does it take to fully recover from a c section? Or how long did it take you to fully recover?

I rolled out of bed once they took the catheter out of me in the hospital and started walking around. Once I got home I took it easy for the 4 weeks like my doctor told me but then I started bending more and picking things up. It hurt and I was sore by the end of the day but I listened to my body and as long as I wasn’t in pain I kept at it. I’m 8 weeks now and pretty much back to normal. Probably going to start working out soon. Listen to your body. If it hurts don’t do it and try again another day. It’s more important to be safe and take longer to heal then rush to do things and end up hurting yourself.

it all depends on your pain threshold. and the care you take after surgery. if you rest but keep moving, keep on top of pain killers. avoid straining sex etc. you will be fully back to normal at 6 weeks. but everyone is different. some are back on their feet at 2-3 weeks

To me, I think it’s how you handle pain and how high your pain tolerance is. I was scared to have one bc I’ve been told “recovery is the worst” so I was scared I’d be in so much pain not able to do anything. I wasn’t sure on my pain tolerance bc all I had that was anything close to pain on my body was tattoos. After 24 hours of laying in that bed, they allowed me to get up, it was weird waking again bc I had been in bed for 24 hours. I was moving better than I thought I would be. Nurses kept asking me my pain scale 1-10, it was always 0 bc I felt no pain, I wasn’t sore. I was walking around with no issues, bending over/sneezing/coughing did kinda sting but nothing I couldn’t handle, I’m 3 weeks pp now and everyone is so surprised I still haven’t had any issues with recovering. My SIL had the complete opposite experience where she was in so much pain for weeks.

I guess I don’t know exactly what fully recovered looks like. I found out I’m pregnant again at 9 months post partum and still had lower abdominal loss of sensation/numbness, so there’s that, but my experience was pretty uneventful. I was up and walking later that day of surgery and made a point to be up a lot in the hospital and those early days at home. I wish I had been better about keeping up with pain medicine because I would wait too long bc being up would make me feel pretty good, but I’d suddenly get some pretty severe pain. I’d say the worst of it was at night, but it passed after day 4. After that I was just taking some Tylenol a few times a day. I took a short walk around the block a week post surgery and definitely felt tired and some pressure, but I started slowly walking around my neighborhood the following week. My friend and I walked our newborns about 2-3 miles when I was maybe 3.5-4 weeks post partum, and I resumed exercising (doing mostly body weight and cardio HIIT classes on YouTube) at 6 weeks. I started running again once I felt a little stronger at 8 weeks, and I would say I was all good from there. I didn’t notice any significant pain after the first week or so when I was just doing normal stuff that wasn’t too exerting.

Took me months my incision kept popping open and I still have pain a year later but they also did a really really poor job on mine and I got MRSA in thr hospital and haven't fully recovered from that either. It's really different for everyone a friend of mine has like feeling perfectly fine in 2 months

Oh, no! That’s terrible! You’re totally right that it just depends on your situation. I couldn’t believe that I had a c section based on my scar because as soon as I could see it, it was white and very thin. It healed so fast. I’m sorry you went through this!

It's been 3 weeks since my csection and I feel pretty good. I mean I won't lift anything too heavy, I can't walk for too long and stuff, but I'm not in any pain and my scar looks good. The first 48 hours were really rough for me though. I had a placenta accreta so I had a Bakri balloon placed in my uterus for the first 24 hours, and that brought on a fair share of contractions, plus there was two catheters coming out of my lady parts, two IV lines, and the oxygen thing in the nose. It felt like I had been run over by a truck, everything hurts and my BP was so low I failed the standing up thing on the first night. After 48 hours, things started to get much better really fast though ❤️
