You should read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility to find out how your cycle actually works. 
Your body doesn’t give a damn about what the calendar says. 
If you’re not on hormonal birth control, then your period’s arrival depends on when you ovulate. Bodies are fairly consistent in the number of days from ovulation to the next period (aka the luteal phase). However bodies don’t always ovulate at the same time. They usually have a window of time that they favor. For example, my body ovulates between CD15-21, but my period always comes 12-14 days after ovulation (always).

Maybe theirs does but that doesn’t mean it’s true for everyone. Never in my life have I ever heard that.
