Had a fibroid removed? Talk to me!

Question

I have a 6cm fibroid on the outside of my uterus that needs to be removed with open surgery. They say it’s a little like a c-section (which I had) but no baby! I’m looking at surgery in July or September, will find out next week. Does anyone have tips for me? My doc says 3 days in the hospital and one month off work! ☹️
P.S. on the bright side of things, I’m looking forward not to having such terrible and heavy periods!

My mom had one removed! And it was not laparoscopically(don't know if i spell it right) but with an open abdominal surgery! Hers was 15cm!! A size of a baby's head! And there was no way for a non invasive surgery because she waited too long to get it removed it got bigger! She stayed in the hospital for 4-5days. She said she had a good experience and nothing scary. I was the one that was scared and couldn't sleep at night because of her. She had removed her fibroid along with her uterus because she didn't want to have any babies anymore and she was in her 40s. It's a simple surgery, don't overthink it! I wish you good luck.

From personal experience, it’s an extremely painful recovery and it just sucks overall. For me, the problem was recurring and I’ve had multiple surgeries. Once I’ve had my last child they’ll do a hysterectomy. But for this surgery, know that you’ll get through it and you’ll feel better- but be prepared for a lot of pain in the week following surgery and be gentle with yourself and your body heals and everything returns to normal.

I had an open abdominal myomectomy. They used a spinal block and light anesthesia (no need for breathing tube). It was painless and I didn't need anything but tylenol after. I stayed 2 nights and asked to go home because I was bored. Took 1 week off work. The scar is long and there was a keloid but the doctor injected some stuff into it and that dissolved the scar. I had 3 large tumors removed. Periods have been so light and only last 3 days now.

Thanks for your replies. ❤️ They’ve said they’ll use BOTH an epidural and general anesthesia for this surgery. I’m not having a hysterectomy because even though I’m 43, I had a mastectomy in 2017 and feel like I’ve had enough of my body removed in the past few years...I really prefer to keep my uterus after losing a breast to breast cancer not that long ago! But every woman has to decide for herself ❤️
