Everyone keeps saying I shouldn’t get the copper IUD, what are your experiences?

I feel like everyone is trying to scare me out of this.
I want off hormonal birth control, I’m done with it. It’s messing with my meds, and my meds are messing with it. I don’t want kids, and I’m TERRIFIED of being pregnant. While I wait for my bilateral salpingectomy to be approved I want another option.
Can you please share your experience with the copper IUD with me?
I really want it but I’m scared. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow when his office opens to make an appointment to talk about getting it!

Had mine for 9 years an loved it. Periods did get slightly heavier but no big deal. I got it removed an got pregnant within 6 months. Had my 2nd baby via csection an they inserted me another iud during surgery. I feel great so far an I’m 17 days pp

What would people have to say that is scaring you out of it? I mean IUDs are a little painful to get inserted, but so worth it.  It’s a few seconds of a pinch... better than labor!
I have my second one in and I LOVE it. I love that I’m not putting authentic hormones into my body and messing with my natural processes and I love that I don’t have to think about birth control.  
I got one in when I was 18, had it for 9 years.  I got it taken out to try and have a baby and I got pregnant that week- which proves that it was definitely doing its job AND I love that I was able to get pregnant immediately rather than needing time for my body to readjust to its natural state.  I got my second one inserted at my 6 week postpartum appointment.

My doctor warned me against it HIGHLY. He said any Copper that he has put in has always, within months, had to be taken right back out. Periods hurt, everything is painful apparently. That being said, I was in the same position... I hated the hormones and the feeling of them. The pill was killing me and my emotions and everything. I had to get off of it. I did not feel like myself at all. I have the Liletta now. I feel SO much better.

Mine is ok. I was a light bleeder now it’s kinda heavy. I used to have my period 7 days now it’s 3-5 days. I don’t have much cramps either. I’ve had mine over a year so I hope it will lighten back up again, but 10-15 years of protection is worth it. Husband says he doesn’t feel it so that’s good.

My sister in law and I both have the copper iud and we’ve both had pretty good experiences. For her it has shortened her period and made it less heavy. She does get strong cramps every once in a while but she loves her iud. She’s had it for about 2 years. I got mines put a few months after giving birth and yes my periods did get a little heavier for the first few months and the cramps were pretty bad but Tylenol and a nice heating pad made some magic happen. After about 6 months my periods didn’t get as heavy and my cramps weren’t as intense but I also found that wearing tampons made my cramps almost nonexistent. I’ve had it for about 8 months now. I have had a few late periods one of which was 2 weeks late but I also have hormonal issues so I’m sure that has something to do with it. That’s also why I wanted something non hormonal. If I’m being completely honest I hated it at first. No one wants to have such heavy periods and a lot of people decide that it’s not what they want before their bodies get a chance to regulate. I  was the same way but now I really love it. I don’t have to worry about getting pregnant and my periods aren’t so bad. Everyone is going to have a different experience so don’t let people try to scare you. Try it out for yourself and see how your body reacts to it and if you don’t like it then at least you have it a shot.

I had my copper in for 7months before getting pregnant on it.
Right before taking the test my period was getting heavier than normal and I was bleeding through super tampons in a hour or 2.
Turns out the heavy periods caused the IUD to slip down and practically hang out, which then allowed me to get pregnant on it.
My doctor told me because it doesn’t have hormones, it needs to stay as close to your uterus as possible to work correctly.
Now I’m on hormonal.

I have the copper IUD and it is great! Insertion is unpleasant but after that I have had no issues! It's really nice to have something nonhormonal and it's not pills so I don't have to remember to take them! And it lasts for years which is great! I've had mine for two years now and love it.

I have really heavy periods like really heavy bleeding. Got the copper iud and it made it so much worse. I honestly didnt think it was possible since my periods are crazy heavy literally since the day i got them 18 years ago. My periods went from my normal heavy 7 days to even heavier and 10 plus days. Got it out and switched to mirena. Now i dont have periods.
