So, my heart is just sad this morning.

My ex husband and his parents lived in my town for years. Him and I had a baby, but when she was just over a year old, we got divorced. Him and his parents moved back to their hometown- which is 10 hours away.

My daughter only sees her dad once a year, on Thanksgiving, and every few weeks on FaceTime.

I got remarried and she calls my husband daddy, as well as her bio dad. Her grandparents on her bio dad’s side of the family very rarely FaceTime her (like two or three times a year), and only see her at Thanksgiving when her dad has her.

I knew one day she would have questions. I didn’t expect her to be only 3. Her grandparents on bio dad’s side had a work convention couple of hours from where we live, so they took a couple days afterwards to come visit. She spent two days with them and had the best time. That was about two weeks ago.

This morning, she woke up crying for them, and saying she wants to go to their house. I told her they live very far away so sometimes it’s hard for us to make arrangements to see them. She just cried. I told her that it won’t be long before she sees them again, and we can try to FaceTime, but man that hurt my heart.

I know one day she is going to want to know why they moved so far, and I don’t ever want her to feel like she wasn’t important enough for them to stay. I thought we were years away from a conversation like that, but this morning had me feeling like that may be closer than I expected.
