Dementia

So my aunt has dementia she’s 84, she lost her husband last March (2018) from cancer. She’s in an assisted living room. On Sunday afternoon, i thought of going over and see if she wanted to go out for an icecream. She’s easily distracted so it can take like 10 minutes to get to the door. It’s an alarmed part, so we have a little key Thing to get in and out. My sons who are 10,8,6 seem to get impatient and say “come on” I tell them “she can get easily distracted” and I said too that “I’m not trying to scare or worry you but who knows I could get dementia in another 35-40 years from now (currently 49 years old) I think you’d want patience for me then.” I try Going myself but they always want to come and I tell them that they need to be patient with her. My husband and I have lots of patience. Is there anything I can do? I’m out of ideas this is their great-aunt and I don’t want to stop them from seeing her either.
