Does this look like a good latch?

She’s having trouble latching and I’m getting nipple shields later to try and help her but she has a tongue tie and I really don’t want to give up breast feeding her but does this look like a good latch?

It’s hard to tell but I think it looks too shallow. I’m not an expert but I think her mouth needs to be open a lot wider.

It does look too shallow as others have mentioned. Have you talked to your pediatrician and possibly a lactation consultant as far as the lip tie? That could deff be preventing her from latching better. Both lips should be pushed outwards and baby should be latching around almost the entire Areola, not just the nipple otherwise it will probably end up causing you a lot of discomfort. Maybe TMI, but this is what my latch looked like when he was a week old. We didn’t have any issues with tongue ties or anything but the baby shouldn’t be sucking a straw they should be open mouthed latching.

No baby should have more areola in the mouth

It looks a little too centered. This was my biggest problem is I tried to center baby on my nipple but what you want is an asymmetrical latch. That is, you want the bottom of your areola more in thier mouth. This helps you get a deep latch.

My baby had a tongue tie but since he has had it cut he can latch much better. I think the mouth needs to be a bit wider x

It looks a little shallow. My son had a tongue tie revision and it totally changed our breastfeeding. He is a champ now. We have been breastfeeding over a year now. 
We used a nipple shield the first several weeks. It was a pain. It fills up with milk and leaks and makes a mess everywhere. Have you considered getting the tie clipped?

Use your finger to make sure her lips are flipped out, top and bottom. It will help get more nipple in her mouth and much less pain for momma. I still have to do that with my little. I can feel the difference, it’s more of a pinching feeling when he’s not flipped out his lips.
