Do you call minty things spicy? Or minty?

I’ve never heard anyone refer to minty things as ‘spicy’ until I met my stepson. Every time he uses our toothpaste instead of his (bubblegum flavor) kids stuff, he pants and says it’s too spicy. I think it’s hilarious and adorable
