Pregnancy with Irritable Bowel Disease

Colleen

So I’m 27 weeks pregnant and since about 12 weeks I had been going to GBMC (hospital) for my OB until I switched to UMMC (another hospital) and had my first appt at UMMC. After looking at my medical records transferred from GBMC and having my medical records on file from my GI doctor they labeled me high risk & now I go to the high risk clinic at UMMC. The doctor wants to put me on lovenox because with IBD you have a bigger chance of throwing a clot & having it go to your lungs causing pulmonary embolism. She told me I am at higher risk for preterm labor, low birth weight and a c- section. All my tests and the baby have came out to be healthy, she was really happy with my test results but even being in remission for 10 years my ulcerative colitis is still affecting this pregnancy that otherwise has been very easy and healthy. She told me she wants to see me every 2 weeks and that when I hit 32 to come in once a week to monitor the baby. Her goal is to have me make it up to 37 weeks. Is there any other moms who have dealt with this? I’m so nervous & the thing that shocks me the most is GBMC DID NOT say one word to me about any risks or anything. They literally could have killed me. I talked more to my new doctor than I have to the doctor I had at GBMC which I had from 12 to 25 weeks. I’m just in shock that if I did not switch over and actually have a doctor that cares I could have been seriously hurt and so could have the baby! I just need some reassurance, having to stab myself for the rest of the pregnancy plus 6 weeks postpartum is not something I am looking forward to & I just feel like an awful irresponsible mom for having IBD (sounds stupid I know). Ugh
