Zofran??

Question

Has anyone taken it for nausea?? I was prescribed it after 2 weeks of not being able to keep anything down. So far it's working tremendously! I've heard nothing but good things about it. But.. My friend just told me it has a bad rep.. That it causes severe birth defects?!? Now I'm freaking out! Anybody have any experience with this medication??

Yeah I became severely dehydrated and the nurse, the PA, and the physician at the ER.. And the OB nurse practitioner and physician at my hospital all said that (mixed with the lack of nutrition.. I wasn't able to keep food or prenatals down for almost 2 weeks straight) would cause more damage than anything I would take medicinally. 
None of them seemed too worried about any negative effects from this medication =\ I guess instead of taking it 3 times a day.. I'll just limit it to once a day or every other day. 
I swear.. This is the only thing keeping me functional :( I've already missed work and school.. Blehh.. My first pregnancy was NOT like this. I pray it goes away by the 2nd trimester!!

If it was really bad they make it where obs can't give it to you while prego

I had a friend who took it and her son was born at 27 weeks and had medical issues. He's still in and out of the hospital and he's almost 2. 
Not trying to scare you, but it can cause problems. Not everyone has problems but it is possible.

I used it last pregnancy and luckily my baby came out fine but I had the lowest dose and only used it when I ABSOLUTELY had to. I thought with the recent info Dr's had stopped prescribing it. I also thought it had recently been changed to the not safe during pregnancy list.

Can cause severe constipation. Depends which is worse, constipation or nausea.

I'm allergic to all other anti nausea meds and used this in all of my pregnancies with nonissues what so ever. Yes there is a class action lawsuit but the chances are so slim the benefits out weigh the risks. Especially if your doctor prescribed it to you.

I took it my first pregnancy. Worked wonders and my daughter turned out fine. If I need it, I'm taking it.

There is a class action lawsuit again pharmaceutical companies because zofran has been proven to be used in pregnancies where the baby had been born with severe birth defects.  
I used it in my third trimester at 34 weeks because I had the flu and the severe vomiting was causing premature labor but my baby was fully developed by then.

I would stop taking it if I were you. Ask your doctor for a different anti nausea med
