Cry it out?

Has anyone else try this? Idk if I should?

You will hear negative and positive, but at the end of the day, do what is right for you. If you feel iffy about it, then cry it out probably isn’t for you. I know I can’t do extinction CIO because I just can’t let my child cry until they are so exhausted that they fall asleep, but it IS the fastest sleep training method and I do believe that she would be fine, it’s just more for my own mental health that I couldn’t do it. There are many different sleep training techniques though and you can try much gentler approaches if they feel better for you. I would do an internet search for the Ferber Method and the different approaches his book teaches. The most common is what we’ve started and have already seen tremendous results in only a couple days. Here’s a starter cheat sheet if you choose to go this route. 
PS don’t let the mom shamers make you feel guilty for helping your baby and you get the sleep you need to be the best mama you can be. 💕

Please don’t.  At the advice of our pediatrician today, we cautiously tried it at nap time today.  Within 15 mins and two visits to her bedside to soothe, she was crying so hard she was nearly hyperventilating.  After we realized this was bullshit for our baby, I scooped her up and rocked and held her.  She continued to cry just as hard for about 10 mins even though she was out of bed and in my arms.  It was awful.  I don’t wish this experience for any baby - or any mother.

I feel like when people hear the words “ cry it out”, they automatically assume that you just throw your baby in a crib and have them cry and scream until they fall asleep on their own. That is so NOT the case. What I personally did was I would go in every 3-5 minutes and reassure her that I am still there and she slowly calmed her self and fell asleep all on her own without having me hold her. She slept seven hours straight and then ate and then went back to sleep for another five hours. I did this with my first daughter and she’s been sleeping in her own crib in her own room since 10 months, and I’m so glad I did because I have a lot of friends and I see a lot of women in these groups that complain about their children sleeping. Also make sure you use the white noise because that automatically tells them that it’s time for bed.

My baby was waking every 2 hour and struggled to stay awake in the day because he wasn’t getting enough sleep. My pediatrician recommended it, so we did cry it out. The first 2 nights were rough, after that my baby started sleeping 10hrs. When I put him down now he doesn’t cry. when I check the monitor my baby is smiling and playing with his feet until he falls asleep. He now stays awake for 1-3hrs in between naps. I know it’s not for everyone, but my baby is so much happier and healthier now.

We did the Ferber method and it worked for us. We made sure she had a fresh diaper and was fed first. Our little one never got so upset that she was hyperventilating. If she had we would have stopped.

I just figured this. Crying is the way these new humans communicate with us. There is a plethora of things that could be bothering them that we may not know about.  Plus you know your baby. Certain cries may not be as urgent.  I let mine cry once. And it tore my heart up because when I picked him up finally I realized he had pooped. I felt awful. It's our maternal instinct to attend to our baby. There's nothing wrong with it. You decide how you want to parent because it's you who gets in the night and feeds and changes them. Not anyone else who tells you how you're supposed to be doing it .

I can’t and won’t let my baby cry it out. He learned to sleep well at night and hopefully that never changes. But crying it out isn’t the only way to get a baby to sleep. I think it feels wrong, because it is wrong.

It's hard and it not for every baby or every parent. I think it will be the right decision for us as mine already self soothes before bedtime a d at naps to put himself to sleep. But if you can't handle the sound of crying I don't recomend. I'll  e starting the night my fianceleaves for his out of town work for a week so that hopefully we're through the thick of it by the time he gets home cause he is very responsive to babies cry (if he's awake) and I think it would be really hard on him emotionally.

There are right and wrong ways to approach the cry it out method. Do research and find the method that works for you.
Dont let anyone shame you, only you know what is best for your baby!

Maybe I’ll rephrase since my last comment was deleted though I’m not sure why as it was just suggesting an article to read 🤷‍♀️
You don’t have to do CIO if it doesn’t feel right for you :) if you are questioning it then maybe at this point in time there is a gentler method you can try?
There are lots of wonderful support groups on Facebook and one in particular which I love, called “Beyond Sleep Training”. This group is great for solidarity with other parents who are working through sleep challenges gently with their babies so that you don’t feel alone. One of the biggest factors with parents choosing to use the cry it out method is simply a lack of support and knowledge on what kind of sleep behaviour is developmentally appropriate for babies. Support is priceless. We are traditionally a tribal species but modern day life has us in a lonely existence. All too common is the attitude that if you choose to have children then you’re on your  own and you must fend for yourself :( 
And a really great book to have a read of called “The Gentle Sleep Book” by Sarah Ockwell-Smith. She also has a great blog with lots of helpful posts on baby sleep. She provides sleep advice that is developmentally appropriate depending on baby’s age. Lots of lovely advice in her book.
