Been on my period for 10 days now

I've always had a problem with my periods, and didn't have one for 2 years. I was put on provera for 2 months, but my period was extremely heavy and caused me a lot of pain. My doctor put me on the Sprintec birth control, and this is my fist period on it and today is my 10th day on my period. I have never had a period this long. Has anyone had this problem before on sprintec or any other birth control? I started sprintec the first day of my period and I hate it. It makes me very moody, irritable, and emotional. Its ruining my relationship because of all the mood swings it is causing. I'm not sure if I should stop taking it or wait another month and a half before my next appointment. I'm worried that if I wait, I will lose my SO.
