Good news! As both a massage therapist and student midwife, i can say that massage is TOTALLY SAFE for a healthy, normal pregnancy at ANY stage. Leg and foot massage is also safe as long as no one is holding any pressure points to induce labor (they’d have to be doing this deliberately for it to be risky). Prenatal massage can be such a relief in pregnancy! Just make sure that you’re getting work done by a trained professional, and don’t be afraid to ask where they went to school. Times when it may be contraindicated include: in cases of high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (d/t high BP), if there’s significant edema or varicose veins (in this case, some massage is still possible, it just has to be adapted), if you are at risk for pre-term labor, or if your doc has told you to avoid it.
