When do babies start drinking water?

I just found out today that at 6 months they should start drinking water..... hectic!!!

They don’t have to start at 6 months. Formula and breastfed babies both can go without water until they’re weaning (and even then it’s just a couple sips here and there if they’re hot or sick or otherwise may end up dehydrated)

They shouldn’t get dehydrated as long as they’re still drinking formula or breast milk. So when they’re weaned is when water regularly becomes more important. But early on, too much water can actually cause them problems.

Babys should not start drinking water who ever told you that is inaccurate. My sister is a pediatrician and they in no way recomend infants to drink water. Some say they can have baby juice from the babyfood section but never water.

My doctor said that formula or Breast milk is what they should be drinking until 1 year. That’s what we did with my daughter and now she drinks nothing but water and occasional juice and some milk

It's more so to get them used to liquids other than milk or formula. I didn't regularly start offering water until 9/10 months when her solid intake went way up. Babies will drink to thirst, so they don't need much water in addition to breastmilk or formula.
