Marriage seems to be the best option atm?

Question

So right now I'm in this situation:

- I moved from America to Australia to be with my boyfriend. 
- Visas are incredibly expensive and right now the cost of living is tough as we only have one small, part-time income. 
- I've looked through all of the options we have atm. And long story short, marriage is actually the best option for us right now. 
- getting married would allow me to work (more income).
- I would be able to go to the doctor when needed (atm i have no health insurance and marriage would give me the ability to do that)
- wed be able to get help with various things and wouldnt have to step through hoops, like with renting a house and car loans etc. 
- amoung other things that would be greatly beneficial.

My idea is to get married (following all the according legal steps ofc, since I'm on a visa and theres extra paperwork). Just a simple marriage, pretty much sign the papers and more or less forger about it. And then at a later date, when we have the money, to have an actual wedding and honeymoon and all that fun stuff.

Just right now getting it done to have much more security within our lives, and income, and health.

My partner though, doesnt want to do it like that. Its not at all that he doesnt want to get married. Its the fact that it would take away the specialness of it. That we'd just be signing some
Papers and being done with it, the. Continuing on pretty much the same.

I too want a beautiful wedding and a honey moon and all that pretty stuff the first time around like he does.

But right now it would really be more beneficial for our lives in general, to get married now. It would help in so many ways.

I really need more opinions on this though, because ofc this is a trixky situation.

What are your thoughts on this? What should we really do?

The question is simply: 
-do we get married now?(this would all be done legally, not doing anything illegal here dont worry. Theres still a process We have to follow and everything)

-Or do we wait it out for the next couple years, taking the long way and going from visa to visa. The ending visa being a partner visa ofc. (Theres a whole lot to visas and a lot to explain. All you need to know is that it will take around 2 years till I'm on the partner visa, which would be the correct visa for me to be on)

Best wisdom about marriage was bestowed upon me and my husband at the alter by our officiant. We do everything a little backwards (baby #1 after being together just 3 months and figuring the rest out afterwards. Oh and we also eloped on random Thursday.). We had a court house style wedding and kept it a secret from everyone until afterwards. (We "planned" it in a day so it wasn't hard to do). Anywayyyy, he said the piece of paper you are signing is not a marriage except in the eyes of the law. Marriage is the nitty-gritty of everyday life. You are the only people who can make it succeed or fail. The vows you make here are only a symbol of the life you have together. The two of you are the marriage. 
It was really special to me and it made the day special. And honestly who wants all the stress of a big wedding, not me! I say go for it girl!!

If you both really want to get married then no reason to wait. If he wants a big wedding still plan it. But you'll need the finances so if the only way for you to get employment is postponing a huge wedding for now then go ahead with the quick marriage. A wedding does NOT make a marriage. The two of are what makes it.

If the only reason for not is to have the big ceremony and honeymoon, I would say do it now, then make it a goal on your one year anniversary to have a nice honeymoon. Or two year anniversary of you want to have a fancy ceremony and honeymoon. But that's only if that's the only reason you'd wait.

.....that's exactly what happens even if you throw a giant party.

Just talk to him more about it and see if you can come to an agreement. Maybe he thinks you're settling just to make things easier. But if you explain that you truly don't mind skipping out on a huge wedding maybe he'll come around.

Or compromise and have a small ceremony in someone's backyard. Cheap, but still special. You don't have to spend a fortune. Just throw on some music and dance all night with friends. :)

So my parents did what you're talking about. My dad is from England and in order for him to get a green card and not get kicked out they got married at the courthouse. No one knew about it and they had a real actual wedding five years later. My cousin did the same as well when she met her husband in Spain. They got married at the courthouse so he was legal and then they are now planning a "real" wedding. 
It really depends on the situation. Apparently it's pretty common in my family 😂 It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks it's what you guys think is best for you. To me, the legal paperwork is just that, it's marriage under the law. When you have your wedding, the ceremony will be the symbolic start to your marriage which can mean more. My parents celebrate their second marriage as their anniversary, not the courthouse one so it is completely up to you. Good luck!

My husband of and I got married in a courthouse, just the two of us without telling anyone. We had planned on getting married anyway but we were in college, had no money, and he was leaving for basic training in two months. Getting married at that time allowed us to get more money from the military through housing allowances and also got me health insurance. We didn't tell anyone because when I first brought up the idea, my mother was strongly opposed, saying that it would just take the magic out of the actual wedding. Well we had a lovely wedding celebration 3 years later when we could afford it, and had it just the way we wanted. 10 years later, I have no regrets at all for doing it this way! It was a smart decision and helped us live our lives more easily. Only you and your fiancé know what is best for your own lives, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

My husband and I got married by just signing papers and getting a notary. Later when we had the money we had a wedding. We celebrate the day we had our wedding as the anniversary instead of the day we legally where married just because it was special but not as special as our wedding. We had to elope cause it was our only option because I got pregnant and we had to move since he is in the military so I lost my job with insurance. So if it's best and you actually want to be married get eloped and later date have a wedding

Just fyi there are still going to be a LOOOOOT of forms and fees still even if you drcide to get married... You might even have to go back to the us to get a visa from the Austrailian embassy... I married my chilean husband and it took forever for him yo be able to come to the usa even when we were married.. So its not over and all us well and good since you get married... Just fyi..
