I have been with my boyfriend 5 years. He has a 9 year old son with his ex wife. She keeps trying to remove my boyfriend from her and their sons life, although my boyfriend has stayed in constant contact by calling and texting to try to speak to his son, but he is ignored. He was just served with adoption papers trying to get him to sign over rights to her new husband. That is not what we want.

My boyfriend did just recently start paying child support again after not doing so for a couple years. We needed to get on our feet and get settled and are now about to have our first son together. She wasnt allowimg us to see him ayways so we felt that it wasnt detrimental we pay. Now I'm worried all of our savings for maternity leave and for this baby is about to go to lawyer fees to fight to keep his son in our life.

We need advice from those experienced with this. How likely are we to gain joint custody if we fight? What is court going to ask?? We have a court date in one month. If my boyfriend refuses to sign over the adoption that means he can't be forced? Or will the court force him to give up rights? How does it work?
