My boss denied my time off request for Jury Duty. Is she allowed to do this?

She wants me to call and reschedule it, but I am angry that she is giving me such a hard time to take off of work for something that everyone is called to do.

She told me to tell them I have important things to get done at work and to try to get out of it. I happened to be called on the same day someone from “corporate” is coming to observe us. And she’s not taking no for an answer.

I think it’s highly rude of her to demand that I change the date. I know everyone has feelings about jury duty, but I feel like it’s not her place to deny me my time off for it. I do not expect to get paid, but it’s Jury Duty. You can’t just tell me not to go.

Is she in the right?
