Why does glow always delete popular threads?

Hoping glow responds to this. Why is that the topics that people are passionate about get deleted? This is CC and it seems like the topics that are truly controversial get deleted? I'm starting to question why this tab even exists if things are always removed.

We don't want to delete threads. Believe us. But at some point, after 100s upon 100s of flags - a topic is no longer seen as beneficial to the community. If anything, it becomes detrimental. And we - glow - get accused of being homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist...you name it, depending on the topic we refuse to delete. Then we get comments like: "come on! Why is this thread still up? Get with it Glow!!!" - it's a pretty no-win situation. But yes, if it was up to us, we would delete a lot fewer topics.

Because it gets too out of hand. People bashing other people, spilled milk, corn chips crushed into the carpet with no available vacuum!

A flaw with Controversy Corner is that it's a default group when you download the app. Thus, new users who are just here to TTC suddenly see random controversial conversations on their feeds that seem out of place. It's not hard to hit that report button. I imagine removing this room as a default group would remedy that, but I imagine this room also contributed significantly to the activity level of the community. So, for Glow, it's an issue of quality versus quantity -- do you want to have a moderate number of happy users, or do you want to have a massive number of users that include many disgruntled users and high turnover? 
   
Secondly, I suspect a good deal of people are reporting because they simply disagree, and not because what was written is actually a reportable offense.

I see a lot of just scroll past comments every time this topic comes up, so I'll take a moment and explain why I personally report things. Feel free to call me Glow police if you want. 🚨 🚓

The most common is wrong group. I report wrong group all the time. There's three reasons why I do. 1. It makes it cluttered and difficult to navigate if things aren't in some semblance of order. 2. Some topics are triggering and should stay in areas designated for that. 3. I genuinely want people to get the help they need, and CC is usually not the best place for that.

Otherwise, I report breaking rules, particularly direct attacks, call out posts, and banned words (you all know which ones). I do this because those don't make Glow community I want to be a part of. We're all entitled to our own opinions of course, but that should not come at the cost of having a safe space.

What I don't report are people who simply disagree with me, including heated discussions, people that I just plain don't like, general profanity, and pretty much any thing else that doesn't actively harm others.

I have to agree. It seems like every alert I get leads to a deleted thread. However, this has only been going on (for me) for a month or so. I'm sure THIS thread will get removed too, so yeah...

I once offended people bad on a topic of challenges of fostering children because I said I wouldn't foster a child because I didn't want to have to have to care for a baby on drug withdrawal or a child who is troubled. That emotionally I wouldn't cope well because I have cared for children previously who were on drug withdrawal. And I cared for a child who had been getting sexually molested by her teacher. Both really hurt me to see that and since that time I got PTSD from something else.
Well I got I am an evil hateful who doesn't care about child welfare. I'm sure all those posters were not even foster parents.

They get removed when rules are broken.

They get removed if they're not considered controversial, if they break the rules, if they're reported as offensive by several users, or if they get out of hand (name calling, etc). If your topic was removed, you can email Glow for an explanation.

1) People lose their shit instead of being able to have a productive debate. 
2) There are too many rules and too much censorship. 
3) Some women are 'report happy' and just love clicking away on that button. It's one thing if someone is racially bashing or flat out attacking or threatening but some women will report you for adding the topic to the wrong place or even softcore name calling. I bet those women are fun at parties :)
