Metformin or insulin?

Question

I’ve just been told yesterday that my GTT came up 8.9. Midwife called today and we book appointment. I know they will give me a device to measure 4 times a day, but after that what’s the outcome?
I have this device at home and measured this morning before breakfast and it was 5.7 mmol/l which from what I’ve seen it’s just above the limit. My question is after this readings what do they advise? I’m in UK

I did not like the side effects of the metformin so I switched to insulin.

My mornings had to be under 5.2 so you’re pretty over the limit. I was similar. Diet changes in the evening had no
Impact on my fasting numbers (they rarely do - it’s mostly hormonal/caused by placenta) so it’s likely you’ll need meds
I was given the choice between metformin or insulin. Metformin was appealing because it wasn’t an injection but I ultimately chose insulin for a few reasons:
1- the body recognized insulin, it’s a synthetic version of what the body produces naturally 
2- it doesn’t cross the placenta in the same levels as metformin 
3- there are no long term studies about how metformin may impact the child whereas there are long term insulin studies
Ultimately if given the choice it’s a convo with your doc about what’s best for you, this was just my decision. The injection was easy and painless- just a little annoying to have to do every night. 
Worth it in the end :)
