Going back to work

I start back to work on Monday (and I'm already missing my baby), and I'm worried about my milk supply. I left the baby with daddy the other day and he blew through what I had frozen (15 ozs in 4 hours?!) but my son has been power eating lately. If I start pumping every two hours, will it increase my supply? Will I need to continue to pump that often at work?

I'll invite you to my Working Moms group. I have a really long post on there about ways to keep your supply up at works, etc. The first week is hard but it does get better! I'm now at almost 5 months back and it's just my new normal. Good luck! Check out the group, I think it'll help. And check out the book The Milk Memos. It helped me prepare for being a pumping/working mom :)

That's crazy! I work 1 day a week in the office and my baby will only eat 10 oz for the 12 hrs I'm gone. She's an enormous baby, too. I pump 20+ oz while I'm at work but she just won't eat much during the day. Weird.

I pump 3 times during the day. I'd say pump when you feel fullish? I want to hear all the other advice too...

The challenge with giving breast fed babies a bottle is that they can be over fed. The rule of thump is one ounce/hour you're gone. The baby will likely continue to eat if offered. If you nursed before leaving, then a 3oz bottle about 2.5 hours later "should" hold them over. And another ounce offered if needed. It takes time to figure out but check out kellymom.com for resources on bottle feeding breast fed babies.
