Has anyone had issues conceiving after stopping bc?

Question

I’ve been all the pill practically all my life... I stopped a couple of months ago because my husband and I want to start a family... 
nothing has happened yet... kind of wondering if that’s not “normal”.

The struggles of TTC are real.  😢 
My husband and I have been together about 13 years now (married almost 1 year next month) and have been TTC for almost 11 months. I have also been on birth control most of my life as I struggled with acne at a young age and was naive to listen to my obgyn and stay on it for this long.  A few months back, after months of failed attempts I found out I have PCOS.  Since getting off BC my periods have been irregular and my acne has taken over my face.  Sadly these were symptoms of my PCOS that were masked by taking BC all those years. 
I thought I was young-ish and healthy and shouldn’t worry, but now obstacles lay ahead while we struggle to get pregnant with PCOS. Every month is a struggle to get through as I hope AF doesn’t come and I get to see those glorious two lines. 
I highly recommend you do a pre-pregnancy check up and get some simple blood work done to help ease you mind or keep you informed about your body.  There is a great chance you are completely healthy, but knowledge is power and you need any edge you can get when TTC. Statistically, it takes a healthy couple up to a year to conceive.

I’m not trying to get pregnant, but I’ve read that it could take up to a year and its best to try for a year and then see a doctor about fertility issues than to go to the doctor right away. I had to look this up after someone told me that white doctors aren’t concerned about the health of black women and that listening to my doctor would have trouble getting pregnant when I wanted to do so.

I had this same concern. Talked to my OBGYN about it, he recommended that I stop BC two-three months before TTC
and that if I had irregular periods in that three months to see him. He explained that if I was having regular periods all would be well and I shouldn’t worry about not being able to get pregnant, so I would say if your periods are regular you should be good.

It takes awhile for the progesterone synthetic that tricks your body out of full ovulation to get out of your system completely. It takes some time for the hormones to regulate (it took me a year, easily) so give it time :)
