This is a really good question! When I had my first daughter (after 2 boys) I read the book about the shettle's method about how to choose the sex of your child. The Dr in the book said you can improve your odds of getting the gender you prefer if you time sex to ovulation accordingly. It's not 100 percent but it can help. I followed the book and gave birth to a girl. The science behind it made perfect sense to me how the dr explained it because female sperm are heartier than males and live longer inside you. So for a girl you have sex 3 days before ovulation and by that time most of the Male sperm have died when the time the egg arrives to be fertilized. Male sperms die quicker but swim much faster so if you want a male he recommends sex on the day of ovulation. If the egg is already there the most of the male sperm will reach it quicker than the females. This method will improve your odds but there are other things that influence it too. Some men will have sperm almost all of one sex or the other. Some women's CM is too acidic for male sperms so only the female survive inside them. Very interesting read. I recommend it for anyone hoping for a particular sex.
