First baby is 13 months, husband wants another. Should we have them that close?!

I realize some people choose to, and some are happy accidents! I just wanted someone else’s opinion, bc my husband is one of 5, and they’re all a year apart! So he wants them close, and I’m 10 years apart from mine. So let me hear it!!

Depends. If you are emotionally and financially ready, go for it! I still feel overwhelmed with only one, so I think I’ll wait a bit longer. I’m not ready for the craziness of two. And I’d rather take my time, give her proper attention, and maybe in a year try for another one.

It is such a personal decision....when you can make it.  There are pros and cons to all the gaps.
With kids closer in age (2 years or less), it will be harder when they are small and dependent, but they usually are good friends which helps because they can entertain each other.  My SIL spaces three kids in this gap and there was about 3 years where she seemed like she was losing her mind.  Then poof...one day she just had big kids.
We did 3 year gaps.  I loved it because I could baby my baby for longer.  Then when the next baby came, the older kid was more independent (could change their own clothes, could climb into car seat, could feed self, could clean self after meals...that sort of thing) which was helpful.  There are times it is a bummer, like now my 9 yo can go on big kid rides at amusement parks, but my 6 yo is too little...so you are pulled in two directions.  I have had babies in the house for the last 9 years....which means 7 consecutive years of the tantrum years.
I can somewhat speak for bigger gaps too - my oldest is 6 and 8 years older than the youngest two.  The older kids have been incredibly helpful with the younger ones.  I often get things done by telling the oldest to pull his sister in a wagon outside.  He loves to do it and the baby loves being outside and I love having time to get things done.

I say it’s all up to you. Can you handle it? Are you up for it? My kids are all 4 years apart (did not plan that way, guess I’m only fertile every 4 years) and they’re great together. I’d say perfect age gap for me. Only 1 is in diapers. My older two can do everything on their own. Makes it where I only need to worry about one  (Ages 8,4 & 1) But seriously it’s up to you. Do YOU want them that close. Some kids are great close together. Some like mine great spread out. Me and my brother are 18m apart and aren’t close. So do what you feel is right for you 😉

I have a 2 1/2 year old and 13 month old. They’re best friends ! My little one tends to bully his big sister lol but other than that they love each other so much!!! They always wake up looking for each other and I think it’s the cutest thing ever

Our kids are 19 months apart and 16 months apart and it is hard and exhausting, but so rewarding to watch their bond grow. It's convenient because they have similar interests. I do however think it's a very personal decision that needs to be discussed with your husband.
