When was your baby able to suck on a pacifier by themselves?

My 2 month old loves her pacifier but she can’t keep it in her mouth on her own for more than a few seconds.  We’ve tried Nuk, MAM, and Itsy Ritsy.  She likes the Itsy Ritsy but I have to hold it for her.  I was looking at the Bib pacifiers and thinking about getting them.  Or is it just a matter of time and she should be able to take it herself?

I read in Happiest Baby on the block that rather than pushing the pacifier in every time it falls out, you should pull on it a little every time the baby gives it a little suck.

The wubbanubs - an avent smoothie pacifier with a little stuffed animal attached were a lifesaver for us - my midwife suggested it - it helps keep the pacifier in the baby’s mouth, especially when they’re sleeping.

Some babies never take a paci (I didn’t) and others love them and get better at it with time. My son did best with the Soothies until about 7 months and now at nearly 10 months likes the Avent and Nuk brands the best. It took him a few months to be able to use them by himself. I used to have to hold it in his mouth (gently!) to get him to calm down. Now he’s a champ and can put them in his mouth in his sleep.
