What do I do??

Okay so I’m 18 and when I turned 18 my mom and step dad bought me a little 2003 Honda that I named Yolanda. Well that car was about 2300 and I’m paying my mom back 1000 for it. Good deal for me. Well recently the motor blew and now i have to save up a 1500 to fix it which I can do but it’ll take me a little while. I told my dad about everything and he offered to buy me a new used car but I’m scared because my dad isn’t the most reliable with things like this. My mom also said I can just sell my car for parts and stuff and then save up to buy a brand new car so I’m not buying one that might have underlying problems. I don’t know what to do and I really need a car to get to work and school. I work 6 days a week but only make 8.25 so it would take me months before I can even save up enough. Help :(

Go car shopping with your dad. Look on cars.com, Autotrader.com, and carfax.com. I found my 2010 Chevy Malibu with 81,700 miles on it for $5400 cuz we bargained with them. Don’t let him do all the shopping and then maybe you’ll get a good car

Coming from a situation like yours it really is a hard decision. If you think your dad will pull through I would get on him about it and car shop together to ensure you get the best deal and that he will actually go through with it. If he doesn’t than I would save up a little and just buy a new car or do your own car shopping for used cars. My parents bought me a car that they thought was good and was “looked over by a mechanic” by the previous owners and we’ve had nothing but issues ever since and I’ve been out of it for a month now. At this point if I had the money I would just put a down payment on a new car to avoid all the troubles considering my job 100% relies on my car and it’s constantly breaking. Also I’m no mechanic or car savvy girl but if your motor blows I feel like more troubles await you down the road. My boyfriend has to replace his transmission in his truck when he first got it and it’s been about 2 years and it’s messing up again. I would get a new car regardless, whether it be used or brand new.

Why do you need a brand new car? If you take someone that knows about cars then there’s nothing wrong with buying one second hand. I’ve been driving 4 years, I’ve had 2 cars and neither of them were brand new, and both have been great little cars.

Let your dad buy you a used car. Sell your existing car for whatever you can get and put that money in your savings. Continue to work and save. You just need something to get you from point a to point b and if your dad can provide that while you save why not?

I’d let him buy me a used car and save money. Either way you don’t have a car right now so you’re in the same boat if he doesn’t really buy it. 🤷🏾‍♀️
