Should he be in the room or am I overreacting? (Read)

Question

My boyfriend doesn’t want to be In the room when I’m in labor or giving birth or cut the cord. This upsets me a lot since it’s our first child and I’m super scared. I’ll have my mum there but I want him to experience her coming into the world. He thinks cutting the cord is disgusting and his reason for not wanting to be in the room is because he doesn’t want to see me in pain.
I’ve told him that I could be in labor for days/hours and that I’d want him there. 
He says he’ll be in the room now but I don’t want to force him if he really doesn’t want too
What should I do?

If he finds cutting cord nasty good luck with poopy diapers and spit up and vomit.
Oh and lmao cant handle you in pain? His heart will shatter seeing baby cry when given shots or sick 🙄

Just like you have the right to say who can or cannot be in the room, he has the right to decide not to be there for himself.  It sucks, but this is probably something you should have talked about before getting pregnant if it was important to you.
You can't force him to be there just because it's what you want. You cannot force him to cut the cord. This is just the man you chose for the father of your child.  Not much you can do about that now.
I doubt you will change his mind, so accept him as he is or move on. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Gosh some of these comments are harsh.
Obviously you'd like him there but he has the right to decide for himself whether he wants to actually be in there or not.
You cannot compare cutting an umbilical cord to a dirty nappy. They are two different things. Some people cannot handle blood and gore and let's face it- that's what birth it.
 Doesn't mean he's less of a man or anything.

He’s probably going through a lot and stressing out that you guys will be having a baby soon. But I’m sure when the time comes he would stay in the room with you to watch your guys baby be born. He doesn’t have to see anything down there he can be supportive by holding your hand and standing next to your bed by your head. As for cutting the cord it’s an experience I feel like every dad should experience if they have the chance to. Hopefully he comes around once your in labor.

Should he? Meh I dunno. I've never been in a situation where the man who helped create my children suddenly wusses out when it comes to bringing them into the world. 
You have to understand that this is also his birth story, his birth experience. The roots of how we deal with birth are engrained in us at a young age by what our mothers and grandmothers taught us about it. If no one in his family spoke positively or even spoke to him about how birth happens. He will be in the dark, which sounds like he is. He's scared which is understandable. You should really drive home the point that you are a partnership,  this is his baby, he should consider being there to support YOU.
