If you have a cat, you been cleaning the litter box?

My husband cleans it out daily, but while he is away I clean it using gloves. Just wondering what others are doing. My cat is indoors and almost 10 so I really don’t think we are at risk for a new infection of toxoplasma, but I try to avoid it when I can.

I don't, just because my husband refuses to let me (in a kind and supportive way). If he were gone for a while I would definitely clean it. Just take lots of precautions and wash your hands really well afterward and you'll be fine. (:

I wish my husband would clean ours out daily. It's like pulling teeth to get him to do it once a week. The smell is killing me.

Gloves are great but IF you have to be near it, don’t inhale. It’s the ammonia that is toxic. Try to hold your breath

No cleaning the cat boxes at all, the dust particles when you scoop, it's bad. Even when you have indoor cats only, it's the same. Wear a face mask if you have to clean it and wash your hands right away thoroughly.

I take the litter box outside, so it’s in open air, I normally just dump the whole thing instead of doing any sifting too. Gotta do what you gotta do! 🤷🏼‍♀️

From my understanding it’s mainly a concern for toxoplasmosis if your cat ingests live/raw food like birds/mice and only if you ingest the feces that is infected. So gloves and washing your hands after is a good move! Also you can have your titers tested for toxoplasmosis if you are worried - if you’ve had a cat for that long you may likely be immune. 
I don’t have a cat anymore but i did my prior pregnancy and was told this by the MFM. I had cats my whole life but only indoor ones and was not immune btw

I said sometimes but don’t have to ever bc my husband has done it since we started having kids.  But, like you said, you’ve had that cat forever, it’s 10 and VERY unlikely you’d catch anything.  All my docs say if they’re inside cats it’s fine.

We have two cats but also have cat genies (highly suggest if you can find a deal like we did!) Our one still has an occasional accident outside the box. If my husband isnt home, I use latex gloves and wash immediately afterwards.
