If you knew a baby name was popular (or would become popular) would you still name your child that?

I’m just curious how people feel about this!
I would personally stay as far away from popular names as I can, but there’s only so much you can do. 
My mom named my older brother Jordan & a year later it sky rocketed in popularity 💁🏼‍♀️

I think the "unique name" thing is a trend that's just as overly popular as having a popular name. It's one thing to avoid having the top few most popular names, but I also think that a good, solid, classic name is much better than this trend of you must have a UNIQUE name so let's make up a weird name, or give it some strange spelling, or named after a random city, or take a boys name and spell it with a y and claim it's a girls name. I'd much rather be named something like Rebecca or Maya or Elizabeth than something like Paysleigh or Houston or "Ezra but for a girl".

I prefer to stay away from the most popular names (like top 10 or 15) but beyond that is fine.
I don't like names to be "unique" for the sake of being unique. Taking a name and butchering the spelling doesn't make it unique, it just makes it a pain for your kid to constantly explain. I do like names that are less common but aren't trying hard to be "unique".

I didn’t want a name that was in like the top 50 of popularity. I graduated with 8 Samantha’s - Samantha being the 5th most popular name in the 90s and I didn’t want my kid to deal with that. I also didn’t want a name so unique it sounded made up or it would be mispronounced their whole life. My husband loved Amelia and Magnolia for girls which are both super popular right now and he liked Oliver for a boy which is floating around #1 at popularity and I just couldn’t do that.

I love unique names! I also love classic names. I think people are so overly judgmental on names.. I personally would not choose an extremely common name, I love unique earthy names the most but I know that’s not for everyone and that’s FINE because it’s my kid to name. 
One thing I will say is I’m not a fan of confusing spelling, I don’t really see that as unique I feel like it’s just an inconvenience for the child  🙈

I know SO MANY KAYLA'S. I dont want my children going through that. I would definitely avoid SUPER popular names. I'm pregnant with our second daughter, and she has a slightly more popular name, but I *dont* think it's THAT popular (I hope!)

I don’t feel like Jordan is all that popular right now. I chose my daughters name, which I never saw or hear anywhere, and now I hear it everywhere. It’s ok though. I’m still naming her that.

I wouldn't go looking for a name that's super popular, but if I really liked one that happened to be I wouldn't necessarily avoid it. Oliver was my favorite boy name for decades and now that I'm having kids it's in the top 10 I believe. Regardless, I've only met or even heard of a few boys with the name so it's not popular enough to deter me. All my girls have names in the top 100, but they were names I've loved for a long time and I've yet to meet another young Alice or Clara. I do know a couple Lucys though.
There's also a lot more names being used in general nowadays so even the number 1 names today are much less common than the number 1 names of older generations. So it's less likely to have 3 Olivias in a class than it was to have 3 Jennifers or Jessicas 20 years ago.

I named my daughter Addison. I don't know anyone with that name but apparently everyone in my family said they knew 2 or more. But I love the name so thats what I used.
