Bad eater?

Question

My baby doesn’t seem to get much when he nurses but I can pump plenty of milk, 3-4 ounces in a good session. 
He’ll nurse for 20 minutes each side and still guzzle down an ounce or so from a bottle afterwards. 
He won’t latch without a shield but latches beautifully with it, takes a bottle just fine. 
Thinking exclusive pumping might be our best option. Any tips?

I pumped for 10 months straight with my second daughter and it is A LOT of work. Pumping takes a lot of time and dedication. I’ve done it all with my three babies and I can say that nursing is by far the easiest and most convenient out of all three options. Nursing can be very difficult in the beginning, but if you stick with it it gets so my easier and quicker. Having to pump every 2-3 hours for no less than 20 minutes round the clock is very tiring. Plus you have to deal with storage and you’ll need a lot of space. I have a large chest freezer that I packed half full with breast milk. Having to wash out bottles, pumping parts, etc. also isn’t ideal. Not saying don’t do it but I just want to give you a realistic point of view from someone with experience with doing it long term. I was able to stop at 10 months since I had so much saved up to last my daughter over a year.

I do the same thing. He’s four weeks and I just nurse on demand whenever I can. And when he stops or falls asleep I’ll move him around or change his diaper or whatever. He will usually wake up and ask for more and I’ll stick him back on. We always give a 4 ounce bottle at 10 pm and 4am just to make sure he is full for the night time. 
You can go to a lactation consultant and they can help you wean off the nipple shield.

Is he having 5-6 wet nappies a day? You know theyre getting enough when they have plenty of wet nappies. He could be cluster feeding, my son at about 3-4 months pretty much lived attached to my breast and was constantly feeding or suckling for comfort.
