Advice about a crush

Met this guy at a summer internship. He is 18 and im 20. i def feel that there is chemistry between us.

-he has asked me to hangout with him one on one on a few occasions at movies etc.

-Recently he was there for me when mourning over a friend.

-He has started to sit with me at meals, walks with me everywhere, and got offended when i said he and i were still strangers.

-i notice that he is always adjusting his hair and clothes when i come near him and trying to seem really masculine.

At this point ive become attracted to him. We both text a lot throughout the day. So i got the impression that we should go a step further. I think i may have rushed things tho because yesterday, I mentioned wanting to meet up with him to hangout (in the evening). I had been planning to kiss him for a few days now, (assuming there is chemistry between us), and texted to him that we should at like 10:00pm to talk (because we work with kids during the day, and thats the only free time we get). Well... It seems like I’ve scared off him a bit lol and he didn’t respond.

He mentioned he was single and he only flirts with me and i know he’s not gay so i feel really bad.

Update:

Last night we were joking via text and came right to my room. We flirted and made goggly eyes until a kid came out and messed with us. I hinted that i had something to give him and he said he would wait outside around the corner of the building. When i met with him a bit later he got really nervous and tried to kind of walk away. Im confused lol. I do normally tease and prank him, so im not sure if he thought it was that
