Advice and tips on working out.

After having my baby 5 months ago I gained a LOT of weight, recovery has taken a lot longer than expected and it's been easier to eat and snack on rubbish food. I'm now ready to get serious about getting in shape. I've started making better food choices and I joined the gym about 6 weeks ago, I've already managed to lose 1 stone (14lbs) I do a cross trainer workout, a 20minute fast paced walk on the treadmill and "try" to do some of the weight equipment but I'm pretty clueless. Has anybody got any advice? Anything on free weights would be especially helpful.
