So this dad shot his daughters phone for running off for the night. He's a dead beat dad but this was his version of a punishment. Is this ok ?

Update: I just realized there was more to the story.

It’s NOT his property. HE doesn’t pay for the phone. HE isn’t involved in his daughter’s life - therefore he doesn’t get to make these decisions. It’s obvious he didn’t buy the phone, otherwise he wouldn’t have destroyed something he had to work to pay for. Confiscation of the phone and given back to mum would have been an appropriate way to deal with this...but we all know dead beat fathers are idiots 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve lived through this. My kids dad is the type that bought love,a buddy whenever he could drag his ass out to visit them. He made money but he was a deadbeat and ended up living a life of buying and pawning. Well my youngest at 6’4’or so at the time,thought it funny to keep the phone his dad bought to HIDE SHIT and had the gall to ignore me while discussing something serious w him,he was so self righteous over the fact that his dad bought it that if I tried to get his attn or GROUND HIM from that damn thing that he’d grab my very tiny wrists and twist them at such an odd angle that he’d win bc of my pain. I had to get my husband to help me bc I’d had enough and we wrestled it away. Well he went to the counselor at school to make a report. CPS came to our house did a couple weeks of investigating and found no abuse. Then he ran away as soon as he turned 17, cops and everyone including his BF’s parents tried to tell me it wasn’t worth forcing him home since his next birthday he’d b 18. Officer even said he’d cut off his own 16 yr old w handicaps. Wtf right? He was brought back home and if he’d tried that again then he would’ve been graduating at a different HS!!These days he’s the most respectful of five and bought a fancy brick home at 22 and has an amazing credit score at 24,he also runs like momma told him when girls start talking rings and marriage and always has money in the bank for hard times and plenty of play dough. No disrespect not ever not at any age for any reason. I feed you, I love you, and have to be able to trust you. I was a single two job working mother of three for most of their lives. I wouldn’t and don’t take no shit.....I don’t care how much anyone else can spend that I can’t. I would’ve done worse and you wanna know why? Bc any adult overseeing the care of a minor is accountable IF anything happens. Shooting it wouldn’t teach a lesson bc it’s replaceable, so no,I wouldn’t do that............BUT my kids always knew I meant what I said I was going to do this if they did...........  and to this day I still believe if there was ever something to be arrested for my kids putting themselves in “harms way is it”and it wouldn’t bother me a bit if it was for the better of my kids and the world I I turned them loose on.
