If you own a cat, do you own 1 or 2? (Advice on introducing a new cat)

This is my baby Niko. He is literally my child.. I seriously love my cat yall. I rescued him from our local animal shelter 1.5 years ago. They think he's about 2 years old... recently I've been thinking ab going back and rescuing a kitten from the shelter. Maybe to give Niko a friend to play with and keep him young and hopefully help him to lose some weight😅 he's almost 14 pounds. Would this be a good idea? He is spoiled rotten and I dont want him to feel like he's replaced or something. In yalls experience, will bringing a cat or kitten home be a good idea or is it too late??

I agree with the other comments. We have two cats, one who we got at 9 months old in January 2017 (Jasper) and the other who we got as a kitten in May 2018 (Harry). Just make sure you supervise them together when first introducing them and do some research about this. Prepare for your cat to be territorial and with ours, due to the both being males and jasper being neutered and Harry wasn’t yet, they seemed to fight a lot trying to establish who’s alpha (a grown cat or a kitten, you can guess who was winning the fights). Once we got Harry neutered it seemed to calm down a bit. Now they’re like best friends!

i have 2 cats at my parents house (i moved out of the country with the navy), the older one is about 13-14 and the younger one is about 2 1/2, and we got the younger kitty a year and a half prior and they are best buds.... since cats are territorial, i would just recommend you make sure that the kitten has its own box in its own room with a door that can be completely closed.... let niko check out the new smell through the closed door (hissing is completely normal and is typically expected from cats when being introduced) for a few days.... then try giving niko something of the kittens and vice versa and feeding each cat on each side of the door to associate the new smell with something good, just make sure that feeding starts at a distance determined by the cats comfort level (watch body language go from relaxed to tense) and then slowly inch the bowls forward... once you feel they are comfortable around each other you can go forward as you see fit, but as long as you take your time with introducing them they should be fine

I have 3 cats at home, Midnight (my dads), Bandit (mine and my bfs), Cuddles (mine) and and they all get along HOWEVER, not all of them used to. My most recent cat I rescued, Bandit, never used to get along with my dads cat, Midnight. They used to chase eachother around the house and hiss and have stare downs. Midnight and Cuddles were rescued at the same time so they grew up with eachother. Cuddles gets along with Bandit just fine, they’re practically best friends. And we think the problem with Bandit and Midnight is that during the time we were trying to get Cuddles and Bandit used to eachother we took different blankets and rubbed one on Bandit and one on Cuddles and then we swapped the blankets and put Cuddles scented one in the room with Bandit so she could become familiar and same with Cuddles. Then about a week later we introduced them face to face through a screen door and eventually put them together. However with Midnight, we just introduced them, no scent intro or screen intro, just brought Midnight in the room and they didnt like it. They didn’t get along at first but every time they fought we’d always scold them both and when they got close and didn’t fight, we’d give them a treat to teach them good from bad. So, if you do get a new cat Just don’t throw them in each others face, let them get some scent and get used to eachother first and then slowly start putting them together. :)

That sounds like a great idea but it will take quite some time for them both to get used to each other. Baby ask the shelter you're getting the other cat from for some advice and watch some YouTube videos on how to introduce new cats, they will really help!
I used to have two cats but one died and the other one disappeared a could years ago ☹ they were brothers. I have my nans cat now and hes precious

I have 1 cat and she was never socialized with other cats because her mother and siblings all passed away when she was very young so she’s really afraid of other cats

I have three cats, two females (4 years and 1 year) and a male (11 months). It can be stressful at first when introducing them, because it can take a bit of time depending on the cats personalities, but once they all get along, it’s such a rewarding feeling! Just make sure you do a lot of research on how to introduce them, watch Jackson Galaxy videos on YouTube (he’s a cat expert and his vids are so helpful). Good luck!

If you get another one. Keep them separate for a bit. Grab some old towels get the cats scent on it and exchange the towels so they get familiar with each other’s smell.  Let your old one sniff under the door where the new kitten is. If you decide to open the room and introduce them  keep an eye on them. If they start to show any sign of stress or aggression separate immediately. Do this for a couple of days till you feel comfortable enough to allow them to be together.

They can take a min to adjust... mine fought constantly at first and now they absolutely love one other. Both females and bffs. Always together now. I was so happy when they started getting along. Older cat Ana hated Nova at first and Nova would try and try I felt so bad then it all stopped one day. Gave Ana extra attention at first too and extra treats toys etc like the kitten Nova got whixh helped.

Aw kinda looks like my lil girl Ivy!! I have 2 but they don’t like each other really. Because the other one is an inside/outside cat & they’ve just never gotten along. It just depends on the cat really.
