Conjunctivitis??

Question

Anyone's babies had conjunctivitis? I'm not sure if it's something I have to go to the doctors about or if i should just keep cleaning it with cooled boiled water and a cotton ball!? (He's 4 months)

I have worked in Pediatric ophthalmology and have been a technician for 6 years. I would being him in because there are a few different kinds of conjunctivitis. Your pediatrician will probably only prescribe an antibiotic ointment as thats what most do because they are unable to tell the difference between allergic, viral or bacterial. Viral cannot be helped with antibiotics it just has to run its course, the other two are treatable, thats assuming it is conjunctivitis and not something else. Usually once pediatrician prescribes antibiotics and if they dont work youll be referred to ophthalmology NOT AN OPTOMETRIST, very big difference. We only get two eyes❤sorry im an eye nerd lmao
