Need opinions from nurses/docs in an OB office/glucose screening
Any opinion on this is welcome, really. I apparently had a 1hr glucose screening today that I missed on accident, I'm 29 weeks. I got a phone call from my OB office, requesting to reschedule. I thought my appt was 8/19, so I was hella confused. I explained that and the receptionist said that wasn't correct, was really short with me too. So she said she could reschedule for next week. But I had to tell her I couldn't because I'm out of town until early August. She was super irritated and told me to hang on so she could talk to my nurse. She got back on the phone, told me the nurse said to call back when I was in town, and then they would reschedule. She then said "keep in mind, this appt is REALLY important for you and your baby, and now we're probably going to have to do a 3hr if you can't make it sooner." I said, "I understand that it's important, this is my 4th baby, but I'm pretty sure the appt card you guys gave me says Aug.19, and I did not intend on missing this appt to begin with. It was either an oversight on my part, or a miscommunication or error on y'alls part. Why would this mean I need a 3hr test though?" She said "I don't know for sure, probably because you missed the first one, but I can have the nurse call back and let you know. Please call us back when you're back in town and we can get this appt rescheduled." Still confused I just said "OK thank you." She said "Yes ma'am." And then hung up.
So I'm waiting on the nurse to call back (which can take up to 3 days, my clinic is managing too many patients right now), but does anyone know why I would now require a 3 hr test? I will say that diabetes runs in my family, and I am overweight. But I have also taken half a dozen of these glucose tests over the years, including a 3hr when I was a teenager. I have never failed any of them. Never had gestational diabetes, never had too much protein in my urine, no other symptoms of gestational diabetes, and my blood sugar is always between 80-110 if they prick my finger for any reason.
Call me bat shit crazy and paranoid, but it really feels like a punishment or something. I don't understand why I would have to go without food for 12+ hours, be pumped full of sugar, and have a ton of blood drawn when there's never been any indication that I have developed gestational diabetes or diabetes outside of pregnancy. I also feel that if I were a thin girl, this wouldn't be an issue at all. Any glucose screenings outside of pregnancy have always been ordered because of my weight and family history. Despite the fact that my blood sugar always tests normal and I have no symptoms of diabetes.
I'll obviously do the 3hr if I absolutely have to, and I'll survive. But I would still like to understand why. I'm starting to get tired if these damn glucose tests.
Also, yeah I'm overweight, but im not obese.
