When dating a guy, how long you hold out before having sex

Been out on the first date. Went out for drinks then back to his place. Of course he tried, but I wasn’t ready just yet. I definitely don’t want to give it up too quickly...

This is a good poll! Interesting enough, I gave it up on the first date before then all the sudden it turned into bootycall. I guess the guy I was seeing figure hell with dating me, and getting to know me. Give me sex... since you already gave it up. BUT like someone else said, its case by case.

Not something you can put a time frame on. Depends how long it takes for you to develop a mature, trusting, loving relationship. I know I don’t represent the “norm” these days, but my man had to wait until we were sure we both knew we were in it for the long haul and would be capable and willing to live with the consequences of contraceptives not being 100% effective. Did we have the self control to last until marriage? No. But do I think it was worth waiting until we eventually knew we would be be married someday? Yes. We’ve been together 10 years now, married for 5. Started having sex 2-3 years into the relationship. Now 26 yrs old and happy to say we’re each other’s only. I don’t judge others who see sex differently and partake just for fun, but I do think it’s beneficial to consider the emotional attachment that is likely to come from it as well as be responsible enough to deal with possible outcomes (baby!) as a team.

I find a wait longer the more I like the guy. If  I have a real crush I make him work for it. If I just think he’s sexy it’s fairly soon after some teasing hookups. I’ve never had a one night stand, but have had plenty of casual things turn into relationships. My SO was the first guy I had a crush on in ages and we were hanging out every day for about 6 weeks before I caved. He made it Haaaard. I had to intentionally not shave so I’d stay strong. But our first time was epic!
