Do you actively have to get your LO to sleep during the day?

I've mentioned this before but our LO seems to hate sleep. He's one month today and we use glow to track his sleep. In these first weeks of life he's slept as little as 8.5 hours and sometimes (rarely) up to 14.5. Never more. And usually around 12. We have to work hard to get him to sleep during the day! Anyone else?

My midwife and pediatrician aren't worried and told me that the figure of 16 hours is an average and not to worry -- baby is getting the sleep he needs. But of course I worry!

When we really force him (and succeed) to sleep more during the day, he sleeps less at night! I'm starting to think he genuinely just needs less?

We are having the same issue! Some days are good, but others it’s as if he doesn’t want to miss a thing during the day and doesn’t sleep at all- then he’s super fussy! The only way he is sleeping during the day lately is on me or my husband. I told the pediatrician I was concerned about the little day sleep and clinginess and she said it’s not a habit yet, that after two months habits are born and he was only 4 weeks when I asked about (now 5 weeks). Let me know if you figure out any great solutions! For us, the car also seems to work wonders. He always zonks out in the car, but know that’s not always realistic to pack up and drive around town....

True! But you can get a little bit more done...and it's nicer on your back 🙈 I keep telling myself it's just a phase and no adult needs his mama to fall asleep 🤣

Oh yes! We have the ergo carrier and when we place him in that and just walk around the house, he falls asleep. But then again, that’s like us holding him.

Thanks for sharing! Good to know we're not alone. For us it's usually the wrap or stroller (we don't have a car, but every time he's been in one he's been chill -- except one time when he was hungry).

I've been having to put my little one down for naps this week because she gets over tired and screams non stop. The only thing that works for me is to do a feed, halfway through I do a change and swaddle her up, finish the feed and then lay her down with a pacifier... It works half the time hahaha

My pediatrician let me know I won’t see a real sleep pattern until LO is about three months old. My baby girl is 8 weeks old and we do everything we can to keep her awake during the day so she sleeps more at night.... it’s hit and miss. She has extreme fussy fits and won’t go to sleep until 1am most nights. Sometimes she’ll get extra sleep the next morning, or will actually sleep the following night. It all depends. I wouldn’t stress about really trying to get the baby to sleep during the day. As long as he’s getting a good average of sleep and Ped. Says he’s fine, you should be good. All different stages of growth can affect sleep and the go through a lot of growing in those first three months. Good luck to you!! Hope things settle soon ❤️

Yeah I did. My son was always an short napper and okay sleeper and now that he’s a toddler he is a terrible napper and takes forever to go down at night. I’m attributing it to me never working with him when he was a baby to help him sleep better (I just didn’t know how to help!) so I’m trying to lau a better foundation for this baby so she’ll be much better napping and settling for the night when she’s older. So far so good, knock on wood!!

Did you pay for it? I don't feel like our situation is that bad that I'd be willing to shell out cash...

My little guy will take short cat naps on me (5-15mins) during the morning and if I move at all he’s up. And I have a 2 1/2 year old so I can’t just sit with the baby all day. I do tend to get both boys down for a good nap in the afternoon (thankfully) but then we are back to the short cat naps in the evening usually

We are the same. She gets sooo overtired that it sometimes takes 2 hours to get her to sleep. It’s so tough. We are trying to only let her stay awake for 30 min, then try to get her to nap, whether it’s the carrier, rock her to sleep, dark room (just bought black out curtains!) doesn’t always work though lolThe carrier is our best friend, she passes out in it every time!
